FIFTEEN BALL

TYPE OF GAME

Fifteen ball is a basic game variation that does not require calling balls or pockets, and yet rewards good shot selection because scoring is based on the numerical values of the balls as in Rotation

It is a game well-suited for developing skills at the beginning and intermediate levels.

PLAYERS

Fifteen ball is best played with two players or two teams.

BALLS USED

Standard set of 15 balls plus cue ball

RACK

Standard triangle rack with the 15-ball on the foot spot (apex). Other balls have no exact positions, but the higher numbered balls are placed at the front of the rack near the 15-ball and the lower numbered balls near the back of the rack.(see picture below)

OBJECT OF THE GAME

The object of the game in Fifteen ball is to score balls of greater total point value than the opponent(s)

SCORING

Each legally pocketed object ball has a point value equal to its number. The game ends when a player’s point total mathematically eliminates opponent(s)(61 in a two player or two team game) If two or more players tie for highest point total, the tied player legally pocketing the last object ball is credited with the game.

OPENING BREAK

Starting player must either :
1- Pocket a ball(does not have to call ball or pocket), or
2- Cause the cue ball to contact an object ball, and then the cue ball and two object balls must contact a cushion. If failing to do so, the incoming player has the choice of:
a) accepting the table in position and shooting, or;
b) having the balls reracked and shooting the opening
break, or;
c) requiring offending player to repeat the opening break

RULES OF PLAY

Any ball pocketed on a legal shot entitles shooter to continue at the table until failing to do so.

On all shots subsequent to the opening break, player must cause the cue ball to contact an object ball, and then either:
a) pocket an object ball or,;
b) cause an object ball or the cue ball to contact a cushion. Failure to do so is a foul.

When a player has the cue ball in hand behind the head string (after a scratch) and all object balls are also behind the head string, the object ball nearer the head string may be spotted on the foot spot at his request. If two balls are an equal distance from the head string, the player may choose the ball to be spotted.

ILLEGALLY POCKETED BALLS

All spotted, no penalty

CUE BALL AFTER JUMPING OFF THE TABLE OR SCRATCH

Incoming player has cue ball in hand behind the head string.

PENALTY FOR FOULS

In Fifteen ball, three points are deducted from the offender’s score for each foul committed. After fouls other than jumped cue ball or cue ball scratch, incoming player accepts the table in position.
