TYPE OF GAME

In Bank Pool, each ball must be pocketed using a bank of at least one cushion. This game is also played for perfecting the art of bank shots. By playing regularly, you’ll become a master in bank shots. It’s obviously a slow game since no straight shots are legal.

PLAYERS

This game is most interesting when played by 2 players or 2 teams of 2 players.

BALLS USED

Balls 1 to 15 are used and since the game could last for a while with 15 balls, many players use 9 balls instead for shorter games. (called 9-ball rack)

RACK

OBJECT OF THE GAME The object of Bank pool is simple: to be the first player to bank 8 balls in any order when played with full rack (5 balls when played with 9-ball rack).

RULES OF PLAY Bank pool is one of the "cleanest" (no "slop") billiards games — no "kick" shots (you must hit the object ball first, and directly, without hitting the rail first); no combinations (it’s always cue ball to the object ball, then object ball to the called pocket (you must call your ball and pocket)); the object ball can't hit another ball on the way (no "kisses").

FOULS You owe the table a ball if you foul. Any ball pocketed on a foul is spotted in addition to the ball you owe. If the cue ball is sunk (or knocked off the table), it is a foul, and you must spot it behind the head-string (in the "kitchen"). Any balls that were sunk on that shot are spotted. If you have not already made a ball at the time of your foul, you will "owe" a ball which you must spot after the round you sink it in. If you make a legal bank and another ball goes in accidentally, it is not a foul, and is spotted after the inning.

It is also a foul if you do not hit your "called" object ball and drive it or the q-ball to a rail (this is just like nine ball). In many areas, fouling during three successive turns means a loss of game, but that rule seems to be largely ignored... in some areas, even three non-consecutive fouls is a loss. Players are advised to make sure the rules are clear and agreed-upon before play begins... especially when gambling.
